What Fire Alarm Servicing Checks Include

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

A fire alarm service visit is more than just pressing a test button. It is a very detailed inspection of all the components of the fire alarm system to check that everything is working correctly.

Detector Testing

We check that each smoke, heat or multi-sensor detector is activated within the expected time. It will then send a signal to the fire alarm panel. If a detector is slow to activate or is blocked by dirt etc then it will need to be cleaned or even replaced.

Call Point Inspection

Each of the manual call points are tested with the relevant test key. If the key is pressed the correct signal is sent to the panel. Any physical damage to the call point or any obstruction to the bezel are also checked and recorded.

Panel and Zone Review

Control Panel Testing – Review of Fault Logs, Error Codes & Zone Configuration. Many previous problems are highlighted up within this section of testing. Also, possible causes of wiring faults before they actually fail.

Battery and Power Supply Checks

Checking the batteries for the required power reserve for back-up in the case of a loss of mains supply and replacing as required with suitable new backup batteries of the correct ampere hour rating and type for the particular fire system.

Logbook and Documentation

Under BS 5839 requirements for servicing a fire alarm logbook must be completed with details of findings and actions completed, and the name and company of the engineer who carried out the work.
