What could be more exciting than taking out the patio furniture for those long relaxing evenings in the courtyard? What is a little less exciting is to clean up everything that has accumulated on this furniture during the winter.
Here are some simple cleaning tips that will help you move quickly through this task no matter what material you need to clean.
Plastic
If you want to quickly clean the plastic furniture (resin), try a high-pressure cleaner.
- Easy to rent in most major department stores, its use is quite simple. With water (you do not need to add soap), you can restore your plastic chairs and in a few minutes, restore them to an almost new appearance. In addition, seeing instant results is very satisfactory.
- However, be aware that the high-pressure cleaner will remove the smooth finish of the chair, which will become a bit rougher to the touch. If you do not mind, start your machine quickly!
Otherwise, you can use a disodium phosphate cleaner (TSP) mixed with hot water.
- The TSP is a universal cleaner that works on everything from stains to clothing to grease marks on the walls.
- You should dissolve 1/3 cup of TSP in warm water and wipe the chairs with a clean cloth.
- You may want to rub the inlaid stains with a soft brush.
- This method works pretty well on colored plastic, but white plastic is more difficult to clean.

The teak
The teak furniture naturally passes from a golden honey color to a silver color.
- If you prefer to bring the wood, back to its original splendor, apply a teak cleaner directly on the wood and rub with a soft bristle brush. This product is sold in most renovation centers or boat maintenance stores.
- Rinse the wood with clean water and wait until it dries completely.
- Apply a teak sealer, but avoid teak oil on the garden furniture.
A high-pressure cleaner can be used, but be careful not to damage the wood.
- Set the device to a maximum of 2000 PSI and use a spout with a spray at 15 degrees or more.

Metal

The cast iron
Wash your cast iron or wrought iron furniture with a mixture of 1/4 cup (2 oz) of mild detergent in 1 gallon (approximately 4 liters) of warm water.
- Apply with a sponge.
- Sponge with a lint-free cloth.
- Let your furniture dry in the sun.
Wicker
The wicker furniture is cleaned with a hose and hot soapy water.
- A high-pressure cleaner put on a low setting also works, but be careful not to break the wicker.
