Decorative wall painting techniques

FLORENTINE LANDS

FLORENTINE LANDS

Florentine lands are one of the most used and well-known painting techniques for walls in the market. Its application is very simple and the decorative finish and with a lot of presence. Perfect to decorate an accent wall of a living room or bedroom, or any other space.

ATMOSPHERE

ATMOSPHERE

Very similar to Florentine lands regarding the application, Atmosphere is also one of the painting techniques for walls with more demand in the market. As I say, its application is similar to that of Florentine lands, so it is very simple to apply, even in inexpert hands.

It is an elegant and effective way to paint walls with effects. In addition to being a perfect technique to create an accent wall, in any space of the home.

CEMENT

Cement

Perhaps the most elegant of painting techniques for walls that there are, although also one of the most complex at the time of application.

For inexperienced hands it can be somewhat difficult the first few times to achieve the final finish correctly, not to say almost impossible, since it takes practice and some suitable tools. If it is the first time you apply it, I strongly advise you to contact a professional in your area.

PAINTING TECHNIQUE FABRIC EFFECT

PAINTING TECHNIQUE FABRIC EFFECT

Another of the favorite techniques for painting walls with effects is the fabric effect technique. A simple application to make that does not require special material beyond alkyl, plastic paint and a brush of fine bristles, which you can buy, to create a wall with a fabric effect.

FLUFFING TECHNIQUE

FLUFFING TECHNIQUE

Undoubtedly painting with the sponge is another painting technique for walls with more recurring effects. Its application is extremely simple, and you only need a sponge to create the desired effects or use a traditional bath — the more porous, spongy and soft the sponge, the better.

VELADURAS

VELADURAS

We continue with another very popular decorative technique for walls, and also easy to apply, and with an excellent result to create effects on the walls.

Although it is a unique technique, it includes variants, depending on what we apply it with, which makes the effect very varied. We can make them with plastic (Veladura), with a rag (Mopping), with a special brush, or with other tools; but its application is very simple and can be done by anyone without previous training or experience.

DECORATIVE ROLLERS

DECORATIVE ROLLERS

The decorative rollers, or pattern paint roller, used decades ago, seem to have become fashionable again, or maybe they never forgot. The fact is that with these rubber rollers that have relief with different designs depending on the roller we choose, we can create a decorative effect on the wall very easily, and create a pattern as if it were wallpaper.

Simply pass the paint-stained roller over the wall so that it will mark the pattern of its relief on it, creating a repetitive pattern to complete the entire wall. The effect depends on the roller we buy, because, as I say, there are many models; Of flowers, abstract drawings, patterns, and geometric figures, animals and many more.

To apply this decorative technique of walls, you need to create a contrast between the background of the wall and the color of the pattern that we apply with the roller.

GRADIENTS OR BLURRED

GRADIENTS OR BLURRED

The gradients also offer a unique and decorative finish, plus there are many types of them, as well as different applications, this being a very versatile technique.

A perfect gradient, like the one we see in the image above of these lines, we can only get it through pistol and compressor equipment, and a lot of skill.

The rest, simpler and also decorative, we can do them in many ways: Freehand, using masking tape, blurring with brush or roller, and other shapes that we can see.

GLITTER EFFECT FOR WALLS

GLITTER EFFECT FOR WALLS

This decorative technique for walls is very simple to apply since it is enough to acquire the special additives to throw them into the paint with which we will paint the walls, remove well and apply the paint as we would normally apply it on the wall.

They come in a powder form, which carries the metalized particles in different colors such as gold, copper, bronze, burgundy, etc. This dust with the particles we throw in the paint, we remove, and when painting the wall, the purplish effect is created.

RUST EFFECT

RUST EFFECT

If you like the industrial style, of all the painting techniques for walls, this is one of the best fit, since it mimics the effect of rust on the metal on the wall. It is not the only style that can be applied, of course.

One is using the oxide effect paint of Osaka, which has metallic particles among others that, when applied on a black background, imitates the finish of oxidized metal, and that we can see here how to apply it step by step.

The other is to paint the wall first with black matte paint, until it covers completely, even if you have to give it several hands. Once the paint is completely dry and the wall is completely covered, with Oxirón enamel of Titan Paints, we apply a hand, and before it finishes drying, we pass an irregularly shaped rag all over the surface, blurring the enamel and creating gusts, thus achieving the imitation of the oxide finish.

HIGH GLOSS WALLS

HIGH GLOSS WALLS

This is one of the most difficult painting techniques to apply since it requires a meticulous process and some experience in the handling of some tools and products.

As you know, there are several smooth paint finishes: matte, which has no gloss; satin, with a little shine; brightness, where the paint has a lot of brightness; and lacquered, where the finish is in high gloss.

The first three can be achieved only by painting the wall in a normal and ordinary way, but the high gloss finish or lacquered walls, need nitrocellulose lacquer and be applied with a gun.

Why with a gun? Well, because if it is applied by brush and roller as we do with normal and ordinary plastic paint, both the roller and brush marks will be noticeable, and there will be no mirror effect.

To be completely smooth and shiny, as if it were a mirror, you need to apply the spray lacquer, and it takes the experience to apply this product with a gun correctly.

Also, these finishes require that the wall be completely smooth and perfect. Any minimal failure that the wall had, the lacquer would highlight it more.

BRISAS EFFECT

BRISAS EFFECT

The breezes, also from Arte Osaka, are an effect with a very irregular and rough finish and are one of the painting techniques for walls that are most used in rustic environments.

This painting technique consists of first applying a special mortar base that we bought already made, and applying it with a towel on the wall, but without smoothing it completely, but on the contrary, the mortar is left with the marks of the passages of the flat, creating soft curves and subtle undulations.

Once the mortar has dried, a special wax of the color that we want with a glove is passed over the surface to provide the breezes with color. This liquid wax is applied in the form of circles, creating an irregular pattern, making the paint penetrate more into the pores of some areas of the mortar already dry than in others, resulting in an irregular wall, but with some harmony and fluidity.

CRACKLE EFFECT

CRACKLE EFFECT

The paint brand Tollens has in its catalog this attractive painting technique that imitates the skin of the snake or the crocodile, using a crackle effect.

To do it we need the Borneo painting and carry out a process that, if you are interested, you can see in this video of Dami Paintings, where we see how to apply this exotic and decorative painting, as well as the necessary materials.

TEMPLATES

TEMPLATES

This is one of the simplest wall painting techniques to carry out and with a great impact. To make it, we need a decorative template that we previously bought, in a paint shop and decoration or right here.

Now, on a preferably smooth wall, the template is fastened to the wall with adhesive tape in the place where we want to apply the drawing.

To paint on the template, we must wring the roller or sponge a lot. Otherwise, the paint gets between the template and the drawing does not come out correctly.

Depending on the color, it will be necessary to apply more or fewer hands, but do not be in a hurry because it covers.

With the roller or the sponge well wrung out of paint you give him a hand, and if he has not covered at all, you wait for him to dry and give him another, or two others; the ones that are needed.

If you try to cover the first and pass the roller very wet in the paint, it will strain through the holes of the template and will be a disaster.

SAND EFFECT TECHNIQUE ON WALLS

SAND EFFECT TECHNIQUE ON WALLS

Another painting technique for walls most in demand is the sand effect. Its peculiar finish and its simple application, have turned this technique into one of the most popular.

Also from the Osaka firm, although it can be found in other firms, such as Leroy Merlin, this effect for walls is available in different colors, although the most popular is the earth tone.

To apply this technique, we first need to paint the wall with white satin plastic paint, until it is completely white, although we have to give several hands. Of course, respecting the drying time between hand and hand.

We can also apply the product with a special short hair glove instead of a brush although the most popular finish comes when we apply it with a brush.

Although it is simple to apply, I suggest that before doing it directly on the wall, try on cardboard or another surface to practice the doll game and that the general drawing of the sand is harmonious, as we see in the image above. These lines, and it’s not chaotic.

As you can see, there are many painting techniques for walls with effects that you can choose from. Some are more complex than others, but if you have any questions about your application, materials or where to buy the product, leave a comment that I will be happy to answer.
