Each type of lighting has one or more specific functions to fulfill, but with the plethora of models available on the market, it is sometimes difficult to find oneself. The following 6 types of fixtures are the most popular and will meet most of your lighting needs

  1. Lighting track: This is a multiple-luminous, strip-aligned lighting device often used for direct lighting of workspaces. It is also used as backup lighting to highlight photos or paintings.
  2. Light Arm: This luminaire is flush with the wall and is usually pointed upward for discreet and attractive backup lighting. Light arms are often used in corridors or in rooms with architectural details such as moldings.
  3. Ceiling light: Chandeliers, ceiling fan lights and suspended luminaires all fall into this category. They are suspended or installed flush with the wall and provide brilliant direct lighting that illuminates the entire room.
  4. Lamp: Ideal for rooms without electrical sockets, or for places where you prefer a more compact lighting source, the lamp is both decorative and practical. A floor lamp illuminates the entire corner of a room while a table lamp is perfect for night reading or localized lighting.
  5. Under Cabinet Lighting: Lighting beneath cabinets in your kitchen or workspace provides bright, direct lighting for complex tasks. These luminaires come in many different styles, from LED tapes to adhesive attachment to long fluorescent tubes. However, they are all designed to give you extra lighting where you need it.
  6. Recessed luminaire: Rather than hanging or projecting from the ceiling, a recessed luminaire is usually installed between ceiling joists and provides lighting that is more discreet. It often has to be installed by a professional, but it highlights the clean lines of a contemporary decor.

The bulbs have various levels of brightness and colors as varied. They are thus suitable for different uses. Choose lamps that match your lighting and lighting needs.

  1. Fluorescent: Although it takes a few seconds to reach its maximum brightness, a fluorescent bulb lasts longer and is more energy efficient than an incandescent bulb. Fluorescent tubes are a good choice for lighting functional areas such as garages and laundries.
  2. LED: Energy-efficient and durable, LED lighting is immediately switched on and is available in a variety of colors for a warm or cold ambiance.
  3. Incandescent: Largely available and inexpensive, the incandescent bulb is increasingly replaced by higher efficiency bulbs. If you like the look of incandescent lighting, consider halogen lighting that is 30% more energy efficient.

Factors to Consider

  • The brightness of a lighting is measured in watt and lumen. The measurement in watt is used for incandescent bulbs while the lumen is used to measure LED lighting.
  • The power in lumens is often displayed next to the wattage on the incandescent bulbs.
  • Try matching the watts to the lumens when switching from incandescent bulbs to LED or fluorescent lights.

The interior lighting is not just to see where you are walking. It increases the functionality of a room and makes it more noticeable visually. Enhance your decor and save by choosing the latest fixtures and energy efficient light bulbs.
